Today Room 9 got to use life jackets in the water and they loved it! It taught them about gaining confidence in and around the water. Some children were a little afraid about jumping into the deep end but with the help of the instructors they were learning some valuable skills.
On Thursday March 3 2016 we're having our family fun day at school. It starts after morning tea, so make sure you come along to check out a fun filled day!
Room 9 have been attending swimming lessons at the Otara pools. They've been learning some very important skills.
New Zealand is an island nation and it is surrounded by water. We don't have to travel far to find a beach, lake or rivers. Therefore it is very important for 'our' children to learn the fundamentals about water safety and being confident in and around water.
Here are a few pics of some children from Room 9 that are enjoying their learning in the water!
During the first week of school our class talked about what we wanted our class and school to be like. There were 3 different groups and each group brainstormed some fantastic ideas. One group used our School values!
Over the next week we created ideas based around these School values and came up with this.
AROHA We will be the 'best' that we can be This looks like: - Trying our best in our learning - Asking for help if we need to MANAAKITANGA
We will treat others as we would like to be treated This looks like: - Using our manners, saying 'please' or 'thank-you' TIKA We will make 'good choices' in our learning and actions This looks like: - Having all our equipment ready for learning AHURUTANGA We will have a safe environment This looks like: - Putting rubbish in the bin - Looking after our gardens WHANAUNGATANGA We will look after each other This looks like: - Taking care of School equipment - Taking care of each other You may notice that our School values all link in some way with each other, that's because they do! I think Room 9 came up with a pretty great treaty!
Found Anita while I was on duty and took this cool pic!
Our treaty was based on our school values.
This is one of our brainstorm's that helped us create our treaty.
